What's the number one thing you look for when you're searching for the perfect photographer for your family? Is it style, location, personality, price? If you've been looking for a photographer you've probably realized that it can be a little overwhelming at times and I'm here to help you in your search with my 5 best tips on finding the perfect fit for your family!
1. Experience. Make sure you hire someone with experience working with newborns. There is a huge learning curve working with the littlest of clients and ensuring their safety is so important. An experienced photographer will know how to ensure poses don't impede breathing or blood flow to those tiny hands and feet. We also employ quite a bit of 'magic' for some of those prop photos and removing hands on baby to keep them as safe as possible. 2. Style. Look through social media photos or ask for an online portfolio to see if their style matches what you are looking for. Editing photos will just fix skin blemishes and removing of hands (see tip above), if you don't like the style once you see the photos no amount of editing will fix that. 3. Studio Tour. If possible ask for a studio tour, this gives you an opportunity to not only meet in person but to see the studio and view some of the props and outfits that will be available. 4. Communication. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You should have a clear understanding of the entire process before you’ve even booked your session. Communication is key and it makes this a smooth process when there is clear conversation and easy access to your photographer. 5. Pricing. Proper gear, education and experience will likely cost more so make sure you take time to review what you will receive. Are you walking away with just digital images or do they offer print services as well. Having wall art ready to hang is an incredible time savings for you. These are things to think about when budgeting for the session. When you look at your photos in 10 years, are you going to regret not having gone with the work you loved the most? I hope these little tips help you with your search. If you'd love to talk more about hiring me for your little one then reach out via the contact page and I will send along our Studio Guide. I have a few spaces still available for Spring babies and would love to see if we'd be a great fit! We have so many colour options available here at the studio and we love it when we get to play with the colourful themes! This was a fun set up to pull items for and they were perfect for this beautiful girl!
I love using blues mixed with pink and cream for girls! It can be so pretty and dainty when mixed with sweet little headbands! We even have some super sweet newborn sized blue rompers for girls available in the studio. It's an extra win when you have adorable chunky baby cheeks to show off as well.
My favourite newborn poses are those that show you how curled up your baby loves to be those first few weeks earth side. It's for such a short time frame that it's easy to forget as they grow and stretch out and new milestones occur. Imagine the joy every time you walk by one of these photos hanging on your wall as you watch her grow into a beautiful young girl.
As much as love snuggling a sweet new little baby, it's so much fun to see them again a year later! I love seeing how much they have grown and changed in looks and watching those sweet little personalities shining through is the best!
1st Birthday sessions can be done with or without the smash cake and we can accommodate most themes or colour preferences when setting up. This family requested a fishing theme and I couldn't find anything to purchase for the little net so a bit of string and a few knots later and we had a little net that worked perfect for us! Interested in booking a newborn session and don't know where to start? Have no fear, here at the studio we will help you along the way and make it super easy. We have a large collection of outfits and props and even carry baby toiletries as well. Forgot to bring something? We have you covered!
There is even a collection of very tiny, sweet little stuffed bears and bunnies like the one below! Everything we source is sized perfectly for our tiniest little clients and if we can't source it I can usually make it :) We are located in Quispamsis and have a lovely custom designed studio for you to relax and enjoy the process while we create beautiful art for you to treasure for years to come. Sitter Sessions are so much fun and a great celebration for your little one! Bringing your little one in once they can sit on their own is a really great way to capture that budding personality starting to shine through! We usually spend a few minutes while everyone gets comfortable as there can be some separation anxiety at this stage and we don't want to cause any distress for your children. Once everyone settles in off we go!
I love seeing my littlest clients come back to the studio for milestone sessions and this 1st Birthday Cake Smash didn't disappoint! This was our first time using this banner and it's adorable! Mom had a vision and let us run with it. His personality definitely showed and we had a great time :)
A few years ago I had to make a huge decision. My wedding schedule was getting booked up every summer and the studio was growing strong as well. I was working a pretty steady pace of 6 and 7 day weeks. One of my passions had to go before I was completely burnt out.
I'm pretty sure from my recent work which path I chose :) Newborn photography was the main inspiration for my start in this business and I knew it was the one that I couldn't even consider giving up. I do miss wedding work but as you can see from this gorgeous baby girl's gallery this is where I need to be! These are the memories I have always been inspired to create for families. |
