I thought I would write up a little blog about what to expect during a newborn session here at the studio and possibly put your mind at ease with how simple it truly can be.
When you first enter you will see that there is a selection of hot and cold drinks for you to enjoy and a comfortable sitting location with easy access to see exactly what we are doing throughout the session. The studio will be toasty warm at approx 25c so baby will be nice and comfortable and I will have a few set ups ready to go and a couple of options for you to choose from. There is a cart with diapers, wipes, receiving blankets etc for your use along with a few products just for mom.
The workflow of the session is basically the same for each newborn session with adjustments made throughout based on your sweet baby. Some need a few extra snuggles, some are cluster feeding so we have more frequent breaks and some have very strong preferences on whether they want to be on their back, stomach or side. The best part.... the studio is equipped with a nice selection of newborn outfits for you to choose from. No need to go shopping for special outfits :)
One of the questions I get quite frequently is regarding safety. Safety will always be the number one priority with all sessions but especially with newborn ones. I have an assistant and her main job is keeping your little one safe and secure when using props like buckets and baskets. If there is even a slight chance of a fall, hands will ALWAYS be on your baby for support. Yes, you read that correctly we take the photos with my assistant's hands on your baby, but don't worry with a little photoshop magic you won't ever know she was even there.
